NAIROBI, July 9, 2015 – Committed to deliver excellent care on a global level, Remote Medical International provided medical support during the 16th Annual Safaricom Marathon and Half Marathon that took place at the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya on Saturday, June 27, 2015.
Regarded as one of the toughest marathons in the world, the race organizers consulted our medical team while planning the event and, together, they developed and updated an improved Medical Emergency Response Plan to prepare for the medical needs of the 1,200 runners from over 20 countries.
RMI served as incident command during the event and worked with a team of 30 providers that included the Red Cross, AMREF, and other local hospitals to address the health needs of the participants, who ranged from recreational runners to world-class athletes. Additionally, RMI provided two ambulances and staffed three of the ten water points located throughout the course.
The proceeds of the race benefited the Tusk Trust and the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy whose joint vision is to use wildlife conservation as a catalyst to reduce conflict, improve education, alleviate poverty, and better the lives of those living in the region.
