Providing executive protection in 5 cities over 12 days

Security considerations take precedence when executives from large organizations and high-profile individuals embark on international travel. Their prominent positions make them susceptible to various forms of criminal activity, including but not limited to assassination, theft, extortion, kidnapping, identity theft, and cyber-attacks. This susceptibility was poignantly demonstrated with the 2024 killing of Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare. Consequently, the security teams of these executives often engage local security services in the destination locations to ensure their safety and protection. This proactive approach helps mitigate potential risks and threats during their travels.

Recently, a client of RMI sought our expertise for ensuring the security of their CEO during an extensive European tour. This tour was distinctive due to its requirement of security services across five different cities within 12 days. The itinerary included visits to Nice, Paris, London, Frankfurt, and Edinburgh for crucial customer and investor meetings.

RMI’s client requested advanced security, locally licensed close protection drivers, and security risk management.

RMI Approach

RMI’s approach included advance planning before the trip, and close protection services during the trip.

  • Advance Planning: RMI’s initial approach involved sourcing experienced agents locally licensed in each country. RMI’s talent acquisition team was quickly able to identify and onboard four highly experienced individuals each locally licensed with 10+ years of police and military experience. Once onboard, these individuals assessed the CEO’s proposed arrival and departure points ensuring they were safe and thoroughly vetted (route planning). Additionally, RMI’s intelligence team was operating in the background monitoring local issues.
  • Close Protection: Upon arrival at the location, the close protection agents assumed full responsibility for the CEO’s safety and security. In addition to the protective detail, RMI facilitated secure transportation via a V-Class Mercedes-Benz. RMI also provided Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and ensured that all agents were proficient in first aid and CPR, further enhancing the safety measures in place.

Despite the relatively brief duration of the executive’s trip, it was not devoid of potential risks. However, RMI effectively managed to alleviate these risks by showcasing the extensive range of our resources, coupled with our agility and promptness in catering to the client’s needs. Our swift response and comprehensive approach played a crucial role in ensuring the client’s safety throughout the journey.
